Dwaine and Chrissy Williams

Update March 26, 2008: Thanks so much to all for all the incredible donations to date. Your notes and thoughts that accompanied the donations have been forwarded to the family. Roy and Sybil Williams want everyone to know they are absolutely moved by the support and generosity shown. They are so proud of Dwaine and his accomplishments, and are, without question, the best caretakers of Chrissy's interests in Dwaine's absence.

Chrissy has found a comfortable life in a facility that specializes in the complicated needs of autistic individuals. Her care is paid for by monthly disability checks, and her needs are finally met. According to Roy, she is happier and more outgoing now than she's been since Dwaine's passing. Roy and Sybil can now return some normalcy back to their lives as well.

Therefore we have stopped accepting donations.

Roy is a good soul who doesn't want to take more money than he could honestly spend.

I guess we couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

I personally would like to thank EVERYONE who took the time to reach out. The compassion of this community was staggering, and I must say this fund was an absolute success. Your donations kept things as comfortable as possible for Chrissy until she could find her home.

This is living proof there truly are "Riders Who Care".

I will have Dwaine Williams memorial stickers with me at every race. Please come pick one up and wear it proudly on your bike.

_______________________________________________________________

On Sunday, October 21, 2007, we lost one of our friends - Dwaine Williams.

Dwaine was racing his #243 Norton in the 750 Sportsman class at Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama. On the sixth lap, he lost control in Turn 10, crashed into an unprotected guardrail, and was killed instantly. Dwaine leaves behind a legacy as a staunch supporter of motorcycle roadracing. He was the man who founded the original Battle of the Twins (BOTT) class in AMA Pro Racing, as well as organizing and running the Florida Gran Prix Riders Association (FGPRA) in the seventies. He was a true racer's racer, and our paddock will be emptier without him. If there is any comfort in this loss, it's knowing that Dwaine died doing what he loved and lived for.

Dwaine's daughter, Chrissy Williams, who is autistic, has been left in a very difficult situation. Dwaine was everything to her (and vice versa), and those who knew him know how devoted he was to her; that kind of devotion is not easily replaced. Dwaine's brother, Roy Williams, and his wife, Sybil, are watching over Chrissy's interests now.

In the meantime, we want to reach out to everyone who knew Dwaine or is moved by his daughter's situation, and try to do what we can to help Chrissy through this transition. As Dwaine had little money to leave for Chrissy's care, we are passing the hat to all those who are willing to help. An online Paypal account has been established under the name "Riders Who Care." All funds paid into this account will be directed to Roy Williams, who will use them specifically to address Chrissy's immediate needs and the costs of creating a new home for her. Riders Who Care is not an established charity, nor is it a tax write-off. It is merely a small fund arranged by those who are concerned for Chrissy's well-being, and provides an organized way to collect donations.

Riders Who Care accepts donations electronically or by check.

Electronic donations should be sent through PayPal (www.paypal.com) to the account name: riderswhocare@gmail.com
(Note: You DO NOT need to set up an account to send funds through Paypal) You will receive an email notification/receipt of your transaction.

If you prefer to send a check, please email to riderswhocare@gmail.com and we'll forward details on how to donate by mail.

Please help. There is no amount too small to give.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us directly at riderswhocare@gmail.com

Thanks,

-Kenny Cummings (and many other riders who care)
